Mamian skirt, also known as 马面裙, is widely popular among the Han Chinese in Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Adapted from the Liao dynasty, Khitan nomads wore these practical pleated skirts to ride horses. They were worn overlapping and wrapped around the body and secured through loops.
